About EunWon.

Born in South Korea, EunWon Lee started ballet at the age of 7. Regarded as a child prodigy, she entered Korea National University of Arts at the age of 16. Right after graduation she joined the Korean National Ballet, immediately taking on lead roles. After 2 years, she rose to the rank of a principal: making her the youngest principal dancer in the history of Korean National Ballet.

EunWon is a distinguished recipient of The Korean Ballet Association’s Prima Ballerina Award and New Artist AwardKorea Ballet Competition’s Senior Silver Medal and Prima Ballerina Award; Varna Ballet Competition’s Junior Bronze Medal; Shanghai Ballet Competition’s Junior Silver Medal; Seoul International Ballet Competition’s Grand Prix Junior Gold Medal and Vaganova Prix International Competition’s Elegance Award. 

She has danced various diverse repertoires including lead roles in Romeo & Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, Raymonda, L'Arlésienne, and The Nutcracker.

On August 2016, the world-renowned ballerina, Julie Kent, invited EunWon to join The Washington Ballet under Kent’s new artistic leadership. This year marks EunWon’s third season with the company.
